Life brings seasons where the weight of trials feels overwhelming. Pain, uncertainty, and unexpected challenges can leave even the strongest believers feeling weary. In these moments, Scripture calls us not to rely solely on our own strength, but to seek the Lord, who faithfully sustains and equips His people for every obstacle before them.
In Joshua 1:1-9, we find a powerful example of God preparing His servant for a daunting task. Joshua had just stepped into leadership after the death of Moses. The responsibility before him was immense, leading the people of Israel into the Promised Land. Yet God did not leave Joshua to carry this burden alone. Instead, He gave a clear command paired with a profound promise: “Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
This passage reminds us that strength is not something we manufacture, it is something we receive as we remain close to God. The instruction to meditate on the Word, day and night, reveals a practical pathway. When our minds are anchored in truth, our hearts are steadied, and our courage grows. Seeking the Lord is not a passive act, it is an intentional turning of our attention, our thoughts, and our trust toward Him.
Pain has a way of pulling our focus backward. We replay past failures, wounds, or missed opportunities. Yet wisdom calls us forward. As an old friend once said, “Reserve your life energy for the battles in front of you. Don’t waste time looking back at things out of your control.” This aligns with God’s call to Joshua. The past leadership of Moses was not to be Joshua’s burden. His calling was to move ahead in obedience and faith.
In times of trial, another burden often presses in, the struggle with sin and discouragement. When we feel weak, we may believe we are destined to remain stuck. Yet the truth of God speaks otherwise. Pastor Paul Earle reminds us, “God says that sin shall not be your master.” This echoes the broader testimony of Scripture, that through God’s power we are not enslaved to the things that try to control us. Strength in the Lord includes freedom, renewal, and the ability to walk in obedience even when it feels difficult.
Isaiah 43:10 offers another layer of encouragement: “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he.” Even in hardship, our lives testify to God’s faithfulness. Trials are not only something we endure, they are places where we come to know Him more deeply. When we seek Him in the midst of pain, we grow in confidence that He is present, active, and trustworthy.
The obstacles before you may feel heavy, but they are not yours to carry alone. God’s presence is not distant, it is near and sustaining. As you seek Him through prayer, Scripture, and trust, He strengthens your heart for the journey ahead. Like Joshua, you are called to move forward with courage, not because the path is easy, but because the Lord goes with you.
